bookstore to remember: city lights books

city lights bookstore is on columbus ave at broadway in san francisco. it was founded in 1953 by poet lawrence ferlinghetti and peter d. martin. the rebellious and smart edge of the beatniks can still be felt in the store’s ambiance today. city lights was the united states’ first all-paperback bookstore. it has everything you could want: knowledgeable and helpful staff, tons of books across every genre you could imagine, and lots of winding rows of shelves to get lost in for hours. i purchased cool gray city of love by gary kamiya and a city lights bookstore journal.
